Short term medical insurance, also called temporary health insurance or term health insurance, can provide a temporary solution to help fill gaps in coverage.
Consider short term if you’re:
- Between jobs waiting for other coverage to begin
- Waiting to be eligible for Medicare coverage
- Without health insurance, outside of Open Enrollment
Coverage is NOT guaranteed - you may be declined.
You need to weigh your options and needs carefully when considering any health plan.
If you have been without coverage for some time, possibly in between employer plans or the COBRA is just too costly a short-term medical plan could fit your needs.

UHC | Pre-Existing Conditions are not covered: Short Term Medical Plans generally don't cover expenses related to pre-existing conditions. This means your plan won't cover costs if you're currently taking medicine or getting treatment for an illness, injury or condition. You've had a condition in the past that resurfaces. You're already pregnant before signing up for the plan. If you need coverage for preexisting conditions, exploring Affordable Care Act insurance options may be your best choice.

Pivot | Pre-Existing Conditions are not covered: Pre-Existing Condition means a disease or condition for which medical treatment, diagnosis, care or advice was recommended or received from a Doctor within the 24-month period immediately prior to the Covered Person’s Effective Date; or any conditions that produced any symptoms which would have caused a reasonable person to seek diagnosis, care or treatment within the 24-month period immediately prior to the Covered Person’s Effective Date.
